It may not look a lot like Christmas right now, but organizers have started planning for this year’s Christmas on the River event.
The Demopolis Chamber of Commerce has announced that Susanna Naisbett will be leading this year’s event as the COTR Chair. Naisbett has a long history of volunteerism. She is a co-founder of Harriet’s House; a member of the Marengo County DHR Quality Assurance Committee; a member of the Canebrake Players Board of Directors; and a volunteer with the Marengo County District Court.
“Christmas On The River is a monumental production and I couldn’t be more excited about the dedicated and talented group of folks that have come together to shine a light on this extraordinary tradition, our beautiful city, and the Christmas season,” Naisbett said.
Members of the COTR committee are Rebecca Hasty, Morgan Nelson, Katharine Glass, Lisa Martin, Jacob Kerby, Stewart Crawford, Ann Parsons, Dee Wright, David Anderson and Linde McAdams.
Christmas on the River will be held Dec. 2 through 5.
Fair in the Square vendor applications and parade applications are currently available at the chamber office.
Christmas on the River Pageant applications will be available beginning August 24 at Demopolis schools and the chamber office. Pageants will take place Oct. 3 and Oct. 5 through 7.
Demopolis Chamber Director Ashley Coplin said volunteers are needed.
“We are now scheduling work days at the COTR warehouse in preparing for the Children’s Day Parade,” Coplin said.
Workdays begin Wednesday, August 19 and are held every Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. through September. Earlier times are available on Wednesdays for volunteers. Those interested are asked to contact the chamber at 289-0270 for more information or if you have a large group interested in volunteering at the warehouse. Coplin said the workday schedule will change in October and that those changes will be announced.
