DEMOPOLIS – Hurricane Ivan is continuing to take a bite out of education at the Austin A. Caldwell Higher Education Center.
Alabama Southern classes will be postponed until Monday, Sept. 27.
“Out of sensitivity to the stresses of our students and because of our commitment to instructional quality, all classes on all campuses college wide will be suspended,” said Dr. John Johnson.
Although classes resumed Monday in Demopolis, the inability to support the center with computer and other support forced the college to cancel classes for the remainder of the week, said Dr. Arthur Ogden, campus director in Demopolis.
“We want to be sure that we can give our students the quality they deserve, and we have campuses in Thomasville and Monroeville that have been heavily impacted from the storm,” he said.
Students and faculty are excused until next Monday, but administration and other staff members should continue to report to work as regularly scheduled, Johnson said.
“We look forward to a fresh start on Monday for students and faculty,” he said.
