SELMA – Southern Academy continued on its path of destruction towards the state championship with a 41-6 dismantling of Central Christian Academy in Selma on Friday night. Southern’s star running back #28 Erik Montz ran for 126 yards on 18 carries and three touchdowns during the game not bad considering he only played for one half due to an concussion that held him out of play for the rest of the game.
Southern didn’t miss a beat the rest of the night, which is amazing considering they lost their main weapon, but they still managed to rush for 441 yards on the ground during the game. Southern’s defense allowed Central to pass for 143 yards going 11 for 30 in the air, but totally destroyed the running game holding them to negative 37 rushing yards on the night.
Southern scored 14 points in the first quarter, seven points in the second, 13 points in the third and seven in the fourth and final quarter. Southern also punted for the first time this season during this game with a 38-yard punt.
Wallace Brary picked up where Montz left off rushing for almost 100 yards on the night including a 55-yard touchdown scamper. Andrew Hoggle also rushed for 72 yards and a touchdown during the blowout.
The Cougars, now 5-0 will face the 3-2 West Alabama Prep Titans this Friday in Greensboro.
