Sumter Academy had the opportunity to host the area volleyball tournament Wednesday after beating Open Door Christian on Monday evening.

Southern Academy, Warrior Academy, Open Door Christian Academy and Marion Academy were all invited to Sumter Academy for the tournament starting at 9 a.m.

“This was a great opportunity to host a tournament here at Sumter,” said Reid Vaugan, a teacher at Sumter Academy. “The school gets to keep a percentage of the cover charged at the games, and the concession sales go back to the school,” said Vaugan.

There were several parents and children present at the matches, making the day almost like a “fun day” for the students, he said.
