As the rain constantly falls, the water level for the Demopolis Lake steadily rises.

According to information from the local Army Corps of Engineers, the water level of the Demopolis Lake is at 79.52 feet as of Tuesday morning at 6 a.m.

The lake typically sits at 73 feet mean sea level, so with the rain the lake is now about seven feet above normal.

A reading on Monday showed the lake to be at 78.24 feet.

Information also from the USACE says when the lake reaches 80 feet it would be at flood level, and 90 feet would be considered severe flood level.

Brandon Smith, assistant site manager with the USACE said the lake levels will reach the low 80s around two or three times a year.

“In the spring of 1979, the river reached 93, which is the highest we have ever recorded,” he said.
