Demopolites out taking advantage of the beautiful Saturday weather may have been in for an interesting sight when the Demopolis Water Tower near the Civic Center sprung a leak.

A stream of water poured from the top of the tower, as more water gushed down the tower’s sides.

Despite the view, Byron Cook, project manager with the Demopolis Water Works and Sewer Board, said it looked worse than it was.

“It looked like we were losing a lot of water because it was gushing, but we probably only lost about 1,000 to 1,500 gallons of water,” he said.

Cook said the leak was due to a faulty transducer, a piece of equipment that monitors the level of water in the tank.

“We’re working on that now, but we got out there immediately and cut the water off,” he said.”

No damage was reported because of the overflow.
