On what should have been a really close game, the West Alabama Prep Titans upset the Sumter Academy Eagles, defeating them 16-3. “Both teams played their guts out,” said Coach Bob Taylor.
The Eagles got on the board first with a 32-yard field goal by senior Chad Bryan. Bryan was also the lead rusher for the Eagles with 117 yards on 25 carries. Unfortunately, that was the last time that the eagles would score.
After going to the half down 3-0, the Titans came back strong in the third quarter with two scoring drives. With 7:40 left in the third quarter, Wesley Ballard had an 84-yard touchdown run. Charlie Lee followed with a two-point conversion.
The Eagle defense stepped up and kept the Titans at bay until there was one minute left in the quarter. Again it was Wesley Ballard who scored the touchdown on a 44 yard run. Ballard completed a pass to Biggs for the two point conversion making the score 16-3.
Ballard ended the game with 207 yards on 21 carries. The Titans had a team total of 263 yards rushing and 56 yards passing. Sumter Academy had 166 yards total offense.
“It was an outstanding game on both sides of the field,” said Coach Taylor. “I was proud of my guys, they did a great job,” said Taylor.
