Chamber accepting Business, Citizen of the Year nominations

The Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce is now accepting nominations for Business of the Year and Citizen of the Year.
The criteria for selection are as follows:
•Nominee must demonstrate outstanding and extraordinary service through civic, religious, business, charitable, community, military, agricultural, government, professional or political activities to Demopolis, Marengo County or the state of Alabama.
No verbal recommendations will be accepted; all nominations must be in writing.
Winners will be announced at the Chamber Celebration and Silent Auction on Monday, Feb. 25. Tickets for the event are on sale for $35 at the Chamber and there will be a hypnotist, Steve Meade, as entertainment.
Some recent previous winners for business of the year include Alabama Power (2011), Collins Communications (2010), University of West Alabama Demopols Higher Education Center (2009), Kidd-Robbins Funeral Directors (2008) and RockTenn Company (2007).
The past five citizens of the year were Angelia Mance (2011), Carl Wright (2010), John Northcutt (2009), Dr. Isaac Espy (2008) and Dan Wilson (2007).
