Marengo County Girl Scouts are gearing up for this year’s cookie sale; in fact, 304 cases of the much sought after treat filled Jones Recreation Center on Monday.

Troop leader Jennifer Hewitt was among the first to pick up cases for her troop to sell.

“This is just my second year as a troop leader, and I think having gone through it last year, I am more prepared this year,” Hewitt said. “The girls really enjoy it and get really excited.”

Hewitt recalls last year when Girl Scout cookie season was dwindling down after finishing a booth sale with her troop and saving one box of her favorite Do-si-dos that were “just for her.”

No sooner than the next day, her family found those cookies and helped in making that “just for her” box of cookies one that was just for them.

Hewitt will now have another chance at a box of Do-si-dos, Trefoils, Samoas and a ton of other favorites with the arrival of this year’s delivery.

There are several troops selling cookies in Marengo County and those looking to buy cookies can find a Girl Scout or look for upcoming booth sales. Booth sales have been done in the past at places such as Vowell’s and Wal-Mart. Boxes sell for $3.50.

Even those customers participating in a weight loss plan can still help girls by purchasing cookies as part of our Cookies for Troops campaign and have cookies sent overseas to service members.
