Lillian Wilcox Spight

Lillian Wilcox Spight, 90, passed away at Richland Place in Nashville, Tenn. on Wednesday, Jan. 2.
She was born in Frankfort, Ky., in 1922 to the Rev. Irvin Walker and Addie Ney Wilcox. She attended Huntington College in 1944 and married her husband, John, upon graduation. She worked with her husband for over 40 years in the family-owned retail clothier, Spight’s, in Demopolis.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Demopolis where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, was a member of Circle II and a past president of the United Methodist Women. She was a past president of the Colonial Book Club and a member of various other clubs while in Demopolis.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, John Henry Spight Jr.
She is lovingly remembered by her three children, Lillian Spight (Mike) Johnson of Cumberland Furnace, Tenn., Barbara Spight Kidd of Atlanta, Ga., and John H. Spight III of Nashville, Tenn. In addition, she will be missed by six grandchildren, Drew (Erin) Johnson, Walker Johnson, Katherine Kidd, Culver Kidd, Jay Spight, Evan Spight; and four great-grandchildren, Trip, Jacob, Shepherd and Josie Johnson.
The graveside funeral service celebration of life will be arranged by Kirk Funeral Homes and held at Riverside Cemetery on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 11 a.m. with Brother Art Luckie officiating.
