A new program seeking to launch people into the healthcare field has come to Demopolis High School.

A certified nursing assistant program will begin in January 2013.

Those interested in taking the class can register at Demopolis High School. The cost of the class is $260.

The program begins Jan. 8 at 6 p.m. in the health science classroom at DHS (Room D6). Classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday of each week and conclude March 28.

To successfully complete the course and receive certification, students must pass final board tests.

Nadine Rogers, instructor of the CNA class said many people who finish the CNA program go on to become registered nurses.

“Many go on to get their LPN, or become an RN,” she said. “There was also a student that went on to South Alabama and recently got her white coat.”

Rogers has worked for the program for 14 years. She said it has helped a lot of students.

A day class is also offered to students at the high school during school hours.
