Christmas trees found at Windham Motor Company and BankTrust in Demopolis will serve a special purpose this year.

Trees at both businesses have the names of underprivileged children hanging from branches. “Angels” have been busy this week, picking names off the tree and pledging to help give toys and clothes to a child in need.

BankTrust employees began decorating their tree the Friday after Thanksgiving with Angel Tree tags from the Salvation Army.

“We do this every year,” Lois Henderson, BankTrust representative said.

The tree went up Friday with 21 names on it. As of Wednesday, all but eight tags had been taken. The tags bear the name of the child, their age and items they need or want for Christmas.

Windham Motors has also taken a lead role in making sure children have a nice Christmas this year with their Angel Tree, which will benefit families through the Marengo County DHR.

“This is our second year to do this,” Tyler Windham said. “We wanted to do something to help out this Christmas season.”

Windham said 25 names were put on the tree to begin with this year and that last year they finished about 50. They hope the response is similar in 2012. “We had great response last year, and hope to do it again,” he said.

The Angel Tree at Windham Motor will go until just a few days before Christmas before toys are delivered to DHR in Linden.
