James “Jimmy” Leake Scruggs Jr.

James “Jimmy” Leake Scruggs Jr., 86, of Marion died Nov. 17 at his home.

Leake was born on June 18, 1926 in Demopolis to the late James Leake and Lizzie Orlean Breitling Scruggs.

Mr. Scruggs was a lifelong pharmacist and owner of Scruggs for Drugs which is now College City Drugs in Marion.

He was preceded in death by parents, wife and mother of his children Allison M. Scruggs.

He is survived by wife, Vivian Miller Scruggs; daughters, Shana Moore (Bruce) of Nacogdoches, Texas and Julie Phillips (Perry) of Jacksonville, Fla.; son, Lea Scruggs of Gainesville; two stepchildren; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 11 a.m. at Marion United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends Monday night from 5-7 p.m. at the church in the chapel and from 10-10:45 Tuesday morning before the service. Burial followed in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Gainesville at 2 p.m. The Rev. Misty Roberts and James Waters Jr. officiated and Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel directed.

Pallbearers were Derry Bone, Taylor Bone, John Ross Bone, Cameron Phillips, Cooper Phillips, Neal Moore, Harris Scruggs and John Brock.
