The Demopolis Tigers (9-2) travel to Spanish Fort to take on the No. 1 seeded Toros (10-1) on Friday night.

Demopolis head coach Tom Causey said that Spanish Fort’s game revolves around their quarterback.

“Offensively for them, it all starts with Joel Poe, their quarterback,” Causey said. “He has a great arm, and he’s aware of everything that’s going on around him. He’s one of the best high school quarterbacks I’ve seen.”

Causey added that they have great skill players that are fast and physical that get open for the quarterback.

Defensively, Causey said the Toros have a couple of players on the line that are great players that can cause trouble for an offense.

“Marcus Walton, a defensive lineman, plays with a wide-open motor,” he said. “They also have a defensive end, Christopher Morehouse, that does a great job for them.”

He said the biggest threat Spanish Fort has, though, is one of their cornerbacks, Jonathan Cook. Causey said he is a big, physical corner and he has been looked at by SEC schools to go play football in college.

As far as what Demopolis needs to do, Causey said it starts with putting pressure on the quarterback.

“We’ve got to get pressure on the quarterback,” he said. “We have to be in our spots in zone coverage and when we are in man, we can’t take our eyes off of our man. We have to try to push him off his spot.”

He added that, with eight teams left in the South in the playoffs, anything can happen. Every team left in the playoffs is capable of beating anybody.

“If we don’t play the way we should, there won’t be a next week,” he said. “We have to prepare each week for who we have to face.”
