Eagles soar over Bears 48-8

THOMASTON- In the midst of the yellow flags and yard penalties, the A.L. Johnson Eagles managed to beat the Keith Bears with a final score of 48-8 Friday night
With five minutes left in the first quarter the score was even, 0-0.
That is until number 22, Cleophus Daniel, managed a three yard run to put six points on the scoreboard for the Eagles.
After two near turnovers, the Bears had a close call with a missed touchdown pass on the fourth down.
The Eagles made the best of the turnover when number three, Brandon Fritts, scored a touchdown. The team went for the two-point conversion to make the score 14-0 with ten minutes left in the second quarter.
The Bears attempted to put points on the board with nine minutes left in the half, but unfortunately couldn’t break the Eagle’s defense and ended their possession with a forced turnover on the fourth down.
A.L. Johnson player, Keyon Fritts, ran 50 yards on a return kick to make the score 20-0.
Number 10, Alphonso Steele added another two points to the score after the touchdown to make the score 22-0.
Number 20, Leo Vaughn, score the first and only touchdown of the game for the Bears with seven minutes left in the second quarter.
Anthony Robinson scored on the two point conversion to make the score 22-8.
Going into halftime the score was 34-8.
Also scoring for the Eagles was James Robinson with 3 minutes left in the half, Michael McGhee who scored on a 90-yard run, Antonio Bennett on the two point conversion, and Brandon Fritts on a 56-yard run.
Eagles coach, Mose Jones said he is proud of his team for starting the season with a win.
“They did a real good job and I am proud of the second team. They are eighth and ninth graders,” Jones said.
Jones welcomes A.L. Johnson fans to future games.
