Demopolis council takes oath of office, gets committee assignments

Demopolis Mayor Mike Grayson and new city council members took their oath of office Monday afternoon.
In addition to Grayson, councilmen Charles Jones Jr., Mitchell Congress, Harris Nelson, Bill Meador and Cleveland Cole were sworn in.

Jones, Nelson and Cole are all new to the council. Congress and Meador are incumbents.
In the organizational meeting, Meador was elected pro-tempore. Meetings will continue to be on the first and third Thursday of the month at 5:15 p.m. at Rooster Hall.
Committee and boards assignments were also given during the meeting. They are:

•Building commission: Grayson and Jones
•Cemetery: Congress
•Finance committee: Grayson, Jones and Meador
•DWWSB: Grayson and Jones

The next meeting will be Thursday, Nov. 8 at 5:15 p.m. at Rooster Hall. The council will then discuss a grant for the airport. The next regular meeting will be Thursday, Nov. 15.
