Two weeks after $5,000 was stolen from an evacuee family at the Red Carpet Inn, the Demopolis Christian Ministerial Association has appropriated hurricane donation funds to repay a large portion of the money stolen from the family.
The Demopolis Police Department recovered only $900 of the stolen money at the time of the offenders’ arrests. The Ministerial Association will give the family the remaining $4,100 that was stolen from them.
A check will be delivered to them at their current residence at Wind Creek State Park in Alexander City.
“The Ministerial Association knew it was important to go ahead and do something for the family to give them a better impression of the city of Demopolis,” said Rev. Aaron Raulerson, president of the Ministerial Association and pastor of Trinity Episcopal Church in Demopolis.
The funds for this gift have come from donations made to area churches for those in need of aid as a result of Hurricane Katrina.
