A.L. Johnson closed out their season in a dominating blowout game against the Sunshine Tigers with a 42-0 win.
“I think the team definitely wanted to send the seniors off with a good game and they did, they really played well,” A.L. Johnson head coach Mose Jones said.
The Eagles opened the game with a score by Willie Moore on a 1-yard run to take the lead early making the score 8-0 after a 2-point conversion by Dyshawn Thrash.
Sunshine struggled to move the ball down the field resulting in several drives ending with a punt to the Eagles.
Castillo Huggins added more points to the A.L. Johnson score on a 17-yard run with 8:46 to go in the second quarter making the score 16-0.
The Eagles Jeremy Mitchell intercepted a pass from Sunshine quarterback and returned the catch for a 42-yard touchdown making the score 22-0 with 7:24 left in the second quarter.
Another mistake by Sunshine resulted in more points for the Eagles. Antonio Dunner scooped up a Sunshine fumble and blasted through to the endzone for a 14-yard return giving them a roaring 28-0 lead at the half.
Even despite a short second half, the Eagles continued to make more appearances across the goal line capping their score at 42-0 for the night.
A loss at McIntosh in double overtime keeps the Eagles from advancing to the playoffs ending their season with a 6-4 record.
“I was really disappointed after the loss at McIntosh, I just felt this group was too good not to go to the playoffs,” he said.
Coach Jones said he looks forward to a good year next season with the returning players and is proud of the senior leadership on the team.
“I am very proud of the great bunch of seniors on this team,” Jones said.
