LINDEN-The Linden City School System wants to make a difference in children’s lives and they want to team with parents to do so. The city schools plan to start this process next Tuesday when they will host a motivational speaker at each of the city schools.
The system will also have a special presentation by the speaker Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in the Linden Elementary School cafeteria to allow parents to participate.
Joe Johnson, Student and Parent Involvement Coordinator, said this was one of many ways they are trying to get parents more involved in their children’s education.
“This is part of our parent involvement program,” Johnson said. “We are going to have speakers in to talk to children and parents together in the area.”
Johnson said the speaker will hit all three schools in the system to deliver a message to students that will give them a can do attitude. Johnson said when he has reached all the students the speaker will address parents as well.
“The speaker will come in at 9 a.m. to Linden High school and then to Linden elementary at 10:30 a.m.,” Johnson said. “When the speaker is done there he will go on to George P. Austin and will be in the Linden Elementary cafeteria that night at 7 p.m. to talk to parents and students.”
Johnson said the Linden School System is looking for other ways to get parents and children involved in programs.
“This is something we would like to do a lot more of,” Johnson said. “We want to get parents and children together in our schools and have helpful, informative speakers for them.”
