After starting the season 1-2, a four-game winning streak has propelled the Demopolis volleyball team to a 5-2 record.

The team’s latest win came Tuesday afternoon against Hale County at the Demopolis gymnasium. DHS had swept the Wildcats in a best-of-three match in their own gym last week and the Tigers came out with confidence again in Tuesday’s best-of-five, cruising to 25-10 and 25-11 wins in the first two games.

But Hale County rebounded in Game 3 as DHS started the game with reserves. With Hale up 23-20 Kayla Langham nearly saved the game for DHS with a 3-point serving run to tie it at 23, but the Wildcats took the next two to win Game 3 25-23.

Even with DHS’s starters back on the floor, the newly confident Wildcats took a 5-0 lead in Game 4 before DHS stormed back. Three straight aces by Sara Davis and a Shawnese Armstead kill edged Demopolis in front 8-7. Hale would take short-lived 10-9 before several hard Blakely Tartt serves pushed DHS in front for good at 14-11. an Alex Ward block along with good play by Armstead and more aces from Davis finished off the game at 25-17.

The win comes on the heels of 2-0 sweeps of Hale and Northside at a tri-match meet last week in Moundville. The Tigers will take the court again Thursday in Butler against Choctaw Co.
