Marengo County Board of Education member Ernestine Mullen was selected to represent the school system at the 2012 Delegate Assembly to be held in Birmingham this December.

Mullen will also be recognized at the assembly as she recently received a Level 4 plaque for her service from the Alabama Association of School Boards.

The school board also discussed other matters including the Quality Core assessments. Superintendent Luke Hallmark discussed different elements of Quality Core to educate the board about the test, which prepares students for the ACT.

In other business the board took the following actions:

•Reported 12 more students passed the graduation exam

•Reported the resignation of John Essex football coach Jerome Antone, who was elected as mayor of Georgiana

•Informed board members emergency drills (fire, tornado) will take place at the system schools

•Reported Deborah Harper of A.L. Johnson High School worked on a grant to start a physics program at the school

•Approved 2012-2013 plans for John Essex High School and Marengo High School, which have to be done for schools currently in school improvement according to AYP standards

The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 4 p.m.
