GREENE COUNTY-Greene County Deputies were able to recover stolen vehicle only hours after it went missing Friday.
Greene County Sheriff Johnny Isaac said authorities were alerted when Ronald Starling of Boligee stopped into a local club and came outside only to find his automobile had been stolen.
“He reported that he went into Archibald’s Club down on Greene County Road 20 in Boligee,” Isaac said. “He said he went in and about 40 minute later his car, which was a 1996 Ford Thunderbird, was gone.”
Isaac said Starling got a ride to another location where he called local authorities. After they responded to the call the car was recovered close to where it has disappeared. Isaac said the car was returned with minor damage.
“They went to look for it at about 1 a.m. and at about 2 a.m. they reported they had found the car sitting close to where it had been stolen from. It had damage to the ignition, the hood, the front windshield, the right front fender and the left rear fender.”
Isaac said they would continue to investigate the case, but felt there was a strong possibility someone had taken the car for a joy ride.
Three days earlier Greene authorities also took Laquita Davis, 29, into custody on a total of 33 counts of negotiating a worthless nonnegotiable instrument. Isaac said Davis had moved from Greene, to Marengo and Perry Counties passing bad checks. Isaac said she was charged with 12 counts in Greene County, but she also had warrants for 13 in Demopolis and eight in Perry County.
The checks ranged from $50 to $130 and were written from Sept. 2004 to the present. Davis was bonded from Greene County Jail on $14,900.
