Conrad Murdock was sworn in as the newest member of the Demopolis Board of Education during Monday’s meeting.
Murdock will assume the seat of Bobby Armstead, who has served on the BOE for the past ten years.
During the meeting, Superintendent Al Griffin gave Armstead a plaque honoring his years of service.
Board President Linda Russell asked Armstead to give the board members a goodbye handshake and Armstead responded in a chuckle, “Are you trying to make this hard for me?”
However, with a smile Armstead addressed the board and commended them for how they have always worked together for the Demopolis City School system.
“During my time here, I have worked with some outstanding individuals,” Armstead said.
Prior to Tuesday’s meeting, the school board held a reception for Armstead and Murdock at the board of education.
In other business, the DCS board took the following actions:
•Proclaimed American Education Week for Nov. 11-17 and Red Ribbon Week for Oct. 22-26.
•Fulfilled stipends for assistant track coach and assistant basketball coach at Demopolis Middle School.
• Approved early dismissial for DMS students at 2:30 on Tuesday, Oct. 30 with PTA Fall Festival.
