The Linden High School Patriots stormed over the Marengo High School Panthers allowing them no points in Friday’s contest with a final score of 58-0.
Anthony Robinson Jr. scored for the Patriots early in the first quarter on a 50-yard punt return to take the lead 8-0 early.
Playmakers for the Patriots in the first half included touchdowns by Jamal Lewis on a 5-yard touchdown run, Jalen Lewis on a 10-yard reception for a touchdown and big plays by Kynard Craig.
“We just have to continue working on us and be a disciplined team every week we come out to play,” Head Coach Andro Wiliams of Linden High School said.
Kynard Craig took the Patriots into the half with a 30-yard touchdown reception with 31.5 seconds left in the half. These combined efforts took the Patriots into the half with a roaring 40-0 lead.
The Panthers young team struggled defensively throughout the game.
“We are a young team and we have to continue to get better,” Coach Dredrick Bell of Marengo High School said. “I feel the team gave effort, but we have to continue to play well on all sides of the ball.”
Linden High School came back in the second half to put an additional 18 points on the board to win the game 58-0.
The Patriots have not only drawn attention with their recent victories to their team, they also hope to bring awareness to one of October’s causes – breast cancer awareness.
“We try to do this every year,” Williams said. “All the guys are participating by wearing something pink out on the field.”
Linden goes on the road next week to play John Essex. Marengo High goes on the road to play Blacksher.
