Greensboro splits with Francis Marion

The Greensboro varsity boys inched their record another step closer to .500 with a 44-39 victory on the road Monday over the Francis Marion Rams.

With the Marion win and Friday’s decision over Sunshine, the Raiders now stand at 7-8 on the season and can even their record at home Tuesday night against Dallas Co.

The Rams led by a point at 9-8 after the first quarter, but a big second period propelled Greensboro to a 24-16 halftime lead. The Raiders were able to preserve the lead from there and won by five.

Leading the way for Greensboro was center Adrian Williams, who finished with 19 points. He was followed by Ivory White with 14, Demarquelle Tabb with 7, Rashad Hobson with 3, and Mike Wiggins with 1.

Marion got double-digit efforts from Justin Johnson and Kevin Curry, each of whom scored 11 points. Edward Hinkle scored 9, Antonio Collins 6, and Jonathan Anderson 2.

Marion’s next game will be Thursday on the road at Bibb Co.

Varsity Girls: Francis Marion 54, Greensboro 48

The Lady Rams had not one but two 20-point scoring efforts to knock off a Lady Raider team coming off of their season’s biggest win, Friday night’s overtime victory over Demopolis.

Quineshia Arrington scored 24 to pace the Lady Rams while Sierra Moore finished with 20. Kara Johnson, who scored 15, was the only Greensboro player in double figures.

The loss drops the Lady Raiders to 10-3 on the season.

Joining Johnson in the scorebook for Greensboro were Vanessa Rhodes and Sabrina Hurns with 9, Brittney Skipper and Jacques Winn with 5, and Shamia Cottrell and Shandrille Tabb with 2 each.

In addition to the big games from Arrington and Moore, Francis Marion got 10 from Jamie Martin, 6 from Mikya Sims, and 2 from Cassandra Woods.

JV boys: Francis Marion 40, Greensboro 33

The Greensboro B team fell to 2-4 on the season with the loss to Marion.
