To emphasize the rewards of getting good grades, the staff of Demopolis Middle School treated around 200 sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders to a PayDay. The students – who made either all As or all As and Bs in the first semester – gathered in the DMS cafeteria to enjoy a break from classes, a candy bar and a bottle of water. DMS Principal Clarence Jackson said other rewards are planned for honor roll students, including an end-of-year field trip for students who make all As in the second semester.
