Another outing and another win. The Demopolis High School girl’s soccer teams recent games have seemed to play like a sweet-sounding broken record to head coach Peter Keen.

The latest victim for the 12-4-2 Lady Tigers

Tuesday night was Hillcrest Tuscaloosa, who Demopolis completely shut down in a 1-0 victory.

While the Hillcrest defense was giving up very little, the Demopolis defense was giving nothing.

Between Lady Tiger defenders and a lights out game from goalie Rachael Walker, one goal was all Demopolis needed to bring home the win.

Even one goal was no easy task for the Lady Tigers against a stingy Hillcrest attack.

Demopolis came away from their opponents goal empty handed most of the day until Megan Keen found a crease. Keen dribbled the ball through Hillcrest defenders from mid-field before hammering a shot from 20 yards out with an assist from Melanie Cherry for the games only score.

Keen said he was very happy with the way his team was able to hold on for the win.

“They all played really well,” Keen said. “Our defense played really well and Rachael also had a great game.”

The men’s team also put forth a scrappy effort to hold on for a 2-2 tie. The Tigers were without several key players because of tennis playoffs and played very well with underclassmen.

“We had a lot of young players who came through for us,” Keen said. “We had some of our seventh and eighth graders out there.”

Danny Hammod assisted Rem Keen for the team’s first goal before adding another himself to secure the 2-2 tie.

Meanwhile, Andy Rogers, who is not the team’s normal goalie, swatted a majority of the Hillcrest shots away.

Rogers performsance, Keen said, was astounding considering the high pressure situation.

“He stopped multiple shots,” Keen said. “He really did an excellent job for us.”

Another tough challenge awaits the Tigers as LAMP, who is 17-4 on the year awaits the men next Tuesday.

The girl’s team will also face LAMP in a home match.

The girl’s game begins at 5 p.m. and the boy’s begin at 6:30 p.m.
