After the West Alabama Babe Ruth Team sweep the Alabama State Championship Tournament over the weekend, they are now switching gears into some serious fundraising.
The players and their parents meet Tuesday night at the Demopolis Sportsplex on how to raise the money needed for their trip to Williamsburg, VA to play for the chance to go to the World Series.
Babe Ruth League President Rob Pearson said the team needs about $8,000-$10,000 for this trip.
“This will be a major undertaking for the players and parents in order to get this money raised so we can go and represent the state of Alabama,” Pearson said.
The parents discussed many different ideas including bake sales, and selling Krispy Kreme donuts, to doing a Hit for Donations.
“The Hit for Donations will be held on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and each person is to go and get sponsors and then each person will get 10 pitches and the longest one counts,” Pearson said.
They are also seeking private donations from businesses and the public.
“If you would like to help support the children of West Alabama, please consider donating to this once in a lifetime trip.
The information for donating is West Alabama Babe Ruth League, P.O. Box 836, Demopolis, AL 36732.
The team will be leaving on Aug. 2, 2006 so they need to raise this money fast.
“Please help us raise this money,” “This is a once in a lifetime chance for these boys to go and play ball,” Pearson said
