Tonight, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Greene County Courthouse, U.S. Rep. Artur Davis will be on hand to hear concerns, ideas and current issues facing his constituents.

Davis will be in town as part of his annual tour through the state for town hall meetings.

Corey Ealons, a representative of Davis’ office, said the meetings are a great way for him to maintain a personal relationship with the people he represents.

“Basically, the Congressman will be bringing people up to date about the things that have been going on district-wide,” Ealons said. “At the same time, he will also be listening to individual questions and concerns.”

Commission Chairman Chip Beeker said he hopes their time with Davis will be as productive as past visits.

“We are certainly excited to have him,” Beeker said. “Hopefully, something fruit-full will come from the meetings.”

The town hall meetings, Beeker said, are always enjoyable because of Davis’s genuine concern for the Black Belt and willingness to help.

“I think he will definitely help us if he can,” Beeker said. “He is always congenial and pleasant to meet with. We really enjoy his visits.”

Prior to his visit to Eutaw, Davis will stop in Selma with good news for the Selma to Montgomery Trail Visitors Center. Recently, the City of Selma received a grant for more than half a million dollars from the Department of Transportation for the development of the Selma-to-Montgomery Civil Rights Trail Visitors and Interpretive Center in Selma. Davis is scheduled to present the check for $528,693 to Selma Mayor James Perkins today at 2 p.m. at the corner of Broad Street and Water Avenue in Selma.
