County turnout low for referendum vote

Nearly 85 percent of Marengo County voters approved the constitutional amendment to take money from Alabama Trust Fund and put it into the general fund budget for the next three years on Tuesday.
About 33 percent of the total voting population in the county turned out to vote. There were 4,762 votes in approval of the amendment and 826 votes against.
According to the Board of Registrar’s office in Linden, there are 15,842 voters registered in Marengo County and there were 5,588 votes cast on Tuesday.
Statewide, voters across Alabama approved the amendment by a 2-to-1 margin.
