The matchup between the Demopolis Middle School Tigers and Greensboro on Sept. 24 will not be just another ordinary game.
DMS Coach Jesse Bell and the team hope to look into the stands at fans wearing red attire in support of heart disease awareness.
“We want to raise awareness about heart disease and promote healthy living,” he said. “We urge all our fans and supporters to come out and wear red.”
The “Red Out, Go Red” event, is in conjunction with the American Heart Association to raise awareness about heart disease and inform children the importance of eating healthy and exercising, he said.
This first-time event will be in addition to the Hoops for Hearts event DMS has done in the past during basketball season. Last year, the school raised over $10,000 with that event.
This particular cause resonates deeply with Bell as his grandmother had heart disease and it prompted him to help raise awareness for the cause.
“The kids get very excited about this and we encourage everyone to come out and participate,” Bell said.
