DEMOPOLIS &045; Ellis Architects Inc. of Tuscaloosa became the first sponsor to contribute to the new Soccer Booster Organization for the Demopolis High School’s boys and girl’s soccer teams yesterday.

Brian Brooker presented a $1,000 check to soccer coach Peter Keen and DHS Athletic Director Doug Goodwin as a representative of the company that has become the group’s patron. The check was donated with the direction that $500 go to both the boy’s and girl’s teams.

The booster organization’s goal is to give the soccer programs the support that the larger athletic programs at the school receive. The organization will try and foster a growth of support as the programs grow.

Brooker said the boosters would begin going out into the community to solicit the support of businesses and individuals. She said as the boosters grow so will the ambitions of their contributions to the teams.

The boosters also feel that their contributions will allow Keen to focus more on the coaching aspect of the teams. They hope their efforts will allow Keen to focus all his energies in continuing to build the soccer programs.

Keen said the girl’s team has made it into the playoffs the past couple of years and the boy’s team has made improvements. He said he thinks the boosters will help the soccer programs evolve further through the funding they will provide.
