When most Marengo County natives recall their visits years ago to the courthouse, Dorothy Louise Westbrook Aydelott &045; or as most people called her, &8220;Ms. Dot&8221; &045;

was a stable figure in their visits.

Aydelott’s family said she believed a woman could do anything a man could do, and she worked to solidify that ideal. She sought to serve the city she had grown up and established a home in. Her family described her devotion to her work by stating, &8220;She loved Marengo County and Linden. She held a deep devotion for her positions.&8221;

After owning a business in Linden with her husband, O. Larimore Aydelott, for many years, she served as clerk of the probate court of Marengo County more than 20 years. She was a member and past president of Business and Professional Women and the first woman councilor for the City of Linden. She also was appointed to the Marengo County Board of Registrars and was a charter member of the Linden Business and Professional Women’s Club when it was organized in 1961. She was even selected as the state’s &8220;Woman of the Year&8221; for the Business and Professional Women’s Club.

Aydelott set the precedent for women in the community. She led the community in a positive manner and showed her devotion to the citizens of Linden and Marengo County throughout her work. She will be remembered for her devotion and loyalty to her community.
