Evelyn Martin Snow

MARION &045; Evelyn Martin Snow, 84, of Marion died on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007 at Bibb Medical Center in Centreville, following a lengthy illness. Memorial services for Snow will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007 at the Marion Presbyterian Church. Visitation with family members will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 15, 2007 at Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel.

She was born Oct. 22, 1922 in Plantersville in Dallas County, the daughter of Dr. Thomas M. Martin and Stella Keahey Martin. She graduated from Dallas County High School and attended Auburn University.

She and her husband, Jack R. Snow settled in Perry County, where she was an active in her community. She was a member of Marion Presbyterian Church.

She lived in Auburn as well as Marion for several years, after her husband took an associate professorship at Auburn University.

She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Snow.

Her husband of 64 years; her daughters, Sandra Gillis of Baton Rouge, Rebecca Montgomery of Tuscaloosa, Anne Duraski of LaGrange, Ga., Lynn Hazelrig of Birmingham and Marsha Hinner of Jackson’s Gap, La.; her son, Richard Snow of New Orleans, La.; 14 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter survives her.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Marion Perry County Library and the Music Fund of the Marion Presbyterian Church.

William Dunning Evans

DECATUR &045; William Dunning Evans, 46, of Decatur died on Thursday, January 11, 2007 at his home. Graveside funeral services will be held at Linden Memorial Park at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007 with the Rev. Randall Mims officiating.

He was born on Feb. 5, 1960 in Decatur.

His father, Francis Evans of Linden; his brother, Francis Evans Jr. of Tuscaloosa; his sister, Marione Nance of Homewood and a first cousin, Marie Coleman, survive him.

O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home of Linden was in charge of the arrangements.

Myrtle Bell Hendrix Averett

DEMOPOLIS &045; Myrtle Bell Hendrix Averett, 89, died Monday, January 15, 2007 at Wood Haven Manor Nursing Home in Demopolis.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at the Demopolis Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Don Smith officiating. Kidd-Robbins Funeral directors in charge of arrangements.

The Averett family will receive friends at Kidd-Robbins Funeral Chapel from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 16, 2007.

Averett has been a resident of Demopolis since 1951 and was a member of Assembly of God Church.

Her husband, John Clifton Averett Sr. and son, John Clifton Averett Jr. and parents, Claude Hendrix and Minnie Hendrix, preceded Averett in death.

Survivors include her two daughters, Merita Halsey and Faye Ruddell of Demopolis;

one son, Donald Averett of Jefferson; four sisters, Nell Woolbright of Tuscaloosa, Minne Lee Causey of Crestview, Fla., Mary Lou Skelton of Tucaloosa and Helen Ruby Cooper of Montgomery; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Doyle Averett, Greg Halsey, Mike Averett, David Griffith, Lane Averett and Lloyd Duncan.

James Powell Alich Jr.

FORKLAND &045; James Powell &8220;Jim&8221; Alich Jr., 60, died Saturday, January 13, 2007 at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa.

Graveside funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at Phillips Family Cemetery in Forkland with the Rev. Lowell Thomas officiating. The United States Marine Corp will conduct full military honors with The United States Marine Corp Honor Guard serving as pallbearers. Kidd-Robbins Funeral directors of Demopolis will be directing services.

He was born in Townley and has been a resident of Forkland since 1968. He was a Vietnam Veteran, where he served as a Sergeant with the United States Marine Corp for seven years and received the Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal with National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palms; Vietnamese Service Medal, Marksmanship Badge and rifle. He was an accomplished lead guitar player who had played in numerous bands and clubs.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Diane Acker Alich of Forkland; two daughters, Heather Diane Miller of Boligee; Jamie Ruth Alich of Livingston; one grandson, Aidan Riley Miller of Boligee and a host of nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Ray McGee, Billy Carroll Jr., Frank Allen Acker, John C. Morgan, Thomas J. Morgan, Roger Gregory, Roger Locke, Billy Flowers and Ed Garrison.
