TOXEY &045; Games played on the road are always the toughest to win, particularly when it’s an area game. The West Alabama Preparatory Titans found it out Tuesday night against the South Choctaw Academy Rebels. They came back from five points down with 35 seconds to play to tie the game with just six seconds left.

Terrance Irby hit a three-pointer after pushing the ball down the court. Kris Kimbrough followed with a field goal after a missed Rebel free throw. That set the stage for the last six seconds of the game.

SCA were able to inbound the ball and get a shot off as the buzzer sounded.

The loss puts WAP in a three-way tie for the number one spot in the area. Central Christian and South Choctaw have 3-2 area records along with the Titans. A WAP win would have guaranteed the number one spot in the area.

West Alabama held a 27-22 half time lead, after trailing 13-12 at the end of the first quarter. Irby scored 19 in the first half.

The Rebels would double-team Irby for the entire second half, but the Titans were on top 37-31 going into the final quarter. SCA would over take WAP in the quarter and go up 50-45 with less than a minute to play, before the Titans came back to tie the game.

Irby finished with 27 points for WAP. Kimbrough netted 15 points for the night.

The Titans will get another chance to reach the top spot in the area tomorrow. They will play host to Central Christian. A win will give the Titans at least a tie and a chance to get to the area tournament. If Sumter Academy beats South Choctaw tomorrow along with a WAP win, the Titans will win the area our right and earn a birth into the area tourney. Tip-off for Friday’s game is slated for 6:15 p.m.
