MARION &045; The Judson Eagles softball team picked up where they left off from Wednesday’s sweep of Stillman. They beat a tough University of West Alabama team, 3-1, in the first game of a doubleheader before running out of gas mentally in the later part of the second game, losing, 11-6.

Despite a career-high 10-strikeout effort by Emily White, UWA fell in game one, 3-1, as the Tigers amassed just five hits, all singles, in the contest. White pitched six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk.

The lone Tiger run came in the third inning as Heather Shugart singled up the middle to score Sheila Jordan and give UWA a 1-0 advantage. UWA held the single run lead until Judson got on the scoreboard with three runs in the fifth inning.

An Ashley Glass double followed by a Missy Jones single, which an error by the right fielder allowed her to touch all the bases to put the Eagles up 2-1. They added another run when Emilee King singled and Anna Billingham’s doubled to cap the scoring for the game to earn Judson the victory in the first game of the doubleheader.

Katie Eubanks pitched the first game for the Eagles and went all seven innings. She struck out eight batters. Glass finished with two hits. Laura Bagwell added two hits for UWA.

UWA takes the second game, 11-6

Five UWA players and two Judson players recorded multiple hits in the second game, including a two-run homerun by Tiger Emily White in the third inning. White finished the game going 2-for-4 at the plate with tworuns scored and 3 RBIs.

Alisha Berry and Krista Merrifield led the Tigers, each with three hits on the night. Merrifield recorded five RBI and two runs scored as Berry scored three runs.

Shugart and Jennifer Lillard both recorded two hits, as Lillard recorded two RBIs.

Judson’s Bailey Bounds and Rikki Morrison tapped out two hits each. Glass drove in three runs for the Eagles.

Aubree Hudson took the victory in the circle with three innings of action.

Tiger starter Amanda Bintz pitched three innings, allowing five runs on six hits with a walk and four strikeouts as former Demopolis High School standout, Brittany McGee finished the contest with an inning in the circle for UWA.

Eubanks pitched three innings for Judson, while Lana Pigg closed out the last four innings.
