An unidentified man fell to his death from the Tenn-Tom Bridge early Saturday morning after leading law enforcement officers on a high speed chase that started in Demopolis and continued through Forkland, Eutaw and Boligee.
“The Demopolis Police Department, State Troopers and ABC (Alcoholic Beverage Control) were holding a checkpoint around 1 a.m. just north of Demopolis on Highway 43 when the man drove through and didn’t stop,” said Demopolis Police Chief Tommie Reese.
From there, state troopers pursued the vehicle until the man stopped at the Tenn-Tom bridge, where he leaped to his death.
Troopers have not released the man’s identity, pending family notification. The Alabama Bureau of Investigation continues to work on the case.
Law enforcement officers were out early Saturday to look for drunk driving and to check for driver’s licenses as part of the “Driver Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.
