LIVINGSTON &8212; The 28th-ranked University of West Alabama baseball team fell 8-5 to Montevallo on Wednesday evening at Tartt Field.

UM jumped out early scoring three runs on six hits in the first inning and plated another in the third for an early 4-0 lead. Travis Fultz hit a one out, single to left field to score Eric Moore for the first Falcon run. Fultz would later score on a Brantly Clay single to right center that also scored Daniel Tankersley. Fultz added the fourth run of the game in the third on a solo home run to right center field.

UWA tied the game in the bottom of the third, plating four runs. Cory Houston led off with a single through the left side and moved up to second on Brent Bumgarner single to left center. Clark Humber reached on an error by Tankersley to load the bases for the Tigers. Todd Rea followed with a sac fly to right field that plated Houston. Bumgarner later scored on a Rob Dahlberg single to left field. Following a Jake DeRoy strike out, Tres Avans scored Humber and Dahlberg on an error by Fultz.

The Falcons added two more runs in the fourth J.D. Pruitt homered to right field to score Ryan Norman, who reached on an error by Rea. UM added another in the fifth as Jeffrey Reach doubled to right center to score Clay for a 7-4 advantage.

UWA tallied another run in the sixth to cut the lead as Dahlberg recorded an RBI drawing a two out, bases loaded walk to score Chris Gilbertsen, who led off the inning with a single to right field.

UM regained the three run lead in the seventh as Fultz, who reached on a one out double down the left field line, scored on a Reach single to left center to finish out the scoring for the Falcons.

Zach Andrews (3-2) received the win on the mound for the Falcons with 2 2/3 innings, allowing only two hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Nate Russ got the save, his second of the season, with two innings of work, giving up three hits while fanning two.

Charles Kelley (1-1) got the loss for UWA with 3 2/3 innings, allowing six runs on eight hits with a walk and a strikeout.

West Alabama returns to action on tomorrow, as the Tigers travel to West Florida for a three-game, GSC weekend series. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m. The series will be aired on WZNJ-FM 106.5 and also at athletics.uwa.edu.
