DEMOPOLIS &8212; Errors early on lead to the 7-2 loss by the Demopolis High School Baseball team in their game against Thomasville.
Coach James Moody said several mistakes turned the tide of the game against the team, which couldn&8217;t pull it out late in the game. He said the team didn&8217;t necessarily play bad in the later innings but poor batting kept the team from mounting a comeback.
Prior to entering the third the team was leading the game, 2-0, but moody said the mistake that usually wouldn&8217;t occur sparked the Thomasville team. He said it lead to the seven point run in the inning that would close out the scoring of the game.
Moody said the pitcher of the game Rob Quinney ended up taking a loss on his pitching record, but that the actual pitching during the game was good. He said other than defensive mistakes, shoddy batting hampered the team throughout the game.
The loss by the Tigers gives them a 12-13 record on the season, but, despite the higher number of losses than wins currently held by the team, they are already locked into the playoffs. The team also has a chance to clinch its area title next week in a big matchup.
Moody said the team plays again today, but doesn&8217;t face Dallas County until next Tuesday. He said the Dallas game would be played at home for the Tigers.
