Sen. Charles Bishop said Sen. Lowell Bishop called him a &8220;son of a (expletive),&8221; so he hit him. Right there on the floor of the Alabama Senate.

There is little excuse for Bishop&8217;s actions. Whether you like his politics or not, he had no right to hit another lawmaker in a place where decorum should reign. He has embarrassed our state, and his apology was far from enough.

In the future, Bishop would do well to be on his best behavior. Otherwise, his colleagues should consider carefully the value of retaining a member who could bring disgrace to the state and Legislature.
