Demopolis (15-13, 5-1) clinched another area title Friday night, downing Selma 13-0 in five innings. The Tigers rode a strong William Stewart outing to keep the Saints at bay.

“Excellent job,” Demopolis head coach Ben Ramer said of Stewart, who allowed two hits and a walk while striking out six. “William, because of some arm injuries we have had throughout the season, has played a bigger role than we thought he would. He has really become our No. 2 starter and has developed into a guy that gives us a chance.”

Tuesday, the Tigers defeated Selma 13-1 behind No. 1 starter Chase Cameron.

Demopolis jumped on top early Friday, scoring four runs in the first inning with the big blow coming in the form of a triple off the bat of senior first baseman Larry Dunn.

Demopolis went down in order in the second inning before putting together some success in the third. Cameron Barger doubled to score Ben Pettus. Daniel Sturdivant followed with an RBI single that plated Barger. Then Louis Steudeman came through with an RBI single that scored Logan Holley, who reached on a walk. After three innings, Demopolis led 7-0 The Tigers then plated six in the fourth to put the game out of reach.

Kole Thrasher went 2-for-4 in the game with a run and two RBIs. Jacob Roemen was 1-for-3 with a stolen base, a walk and a run. Pettus was 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Dunn went 1-for-2 with a walk, a triple, two runs and two RBIs. Stewart drew a walk and scored. Barger was 1-for-2 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Holley was 1-for-1 with two walks, a triple and two runs scored. Sturdivant was 1-for-2 with a walk, a run and an RBI. Steudeman wrapped up his night with a 1-for-2 line that included an RBI and a run scored.

The win gives Demopolis home field advantage next weekend for the first round of the playoffs when they will host Beauregard.

“Home field is always big, especially when you get a lot of support and a bunch of fans out here,” Ramer said.

The win not only gives Demopolis the area title, but also marks the latest success in a turnaround that has completely changed the outlook of their season.

“I was looking back at the schedule a couple days ago and we were 4-9 over the first 13 games,” Ramer said. “Since that point, we’re 11-4. I think our guys have done a great job making some adjustments.”
