Herbert “Deek” Glass

Herbert “Deek” Glass, age 81 of Demopolis, died Saturday, April 28 in Calvary. He was born July 31, 1930 in Linden, the son of Linwood and Hazel Wingate Glass. He was a member of Fairhaven Baptist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
“Deek” was a loving family man who was born, raised and passed away at his family farm, which he loved, in Calvary.
He spent countless hours there. It wasn’t unusual for “Deek” to gather the surrounding community children and families for holiday festivities at his farm. “Deek” was a community advocate for the rights of others.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Nell Glass of Demopolis; two sons, Herbert Clinton Glass Jr. of Pensacola, Fla. and Steve (Deborah) Linwill of Millry; four grandchildren, Shannon Glass and Brittany Glass of Merritt Island, Fla.’ Ben Glass and Kayla Glass of Millry; six nieces, Gail Flowers of Demopolis, Sheryl Vice of Demopolis, Patricia Smith of Opelika, Jeanine Glass of Huntsville, Jessica Bradford of Dixon’s Mills and Jennifer Parten of Dixon’s Mills; three nephews, Mike Glass of Demopolis, Charlie Bradford of Dixon’s Mills and Hootie Allen of Arab.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, John Linwood Glass and Thurman Glass, and two sisters, Virginia Flowers and Frances Bradford.
Funeral services were held at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 2 at 4 p.m. with Dr. Allen Atkins officiating. Burial with Military Honors was at the Shiloh Cemetery in Dixon’s Mills.
Active Pallbearers were Frank McGillberry, Chuck Glass, Mitch Barkley, Duke Schroeder, Ronnie Glass, Dwain Glass, Holt Barkley and Jason Glass.
Honorary Pallbearers were Mack Barkley, Albert Glass, James Nelson, Jeffrey McIntock, Morris Mitchell, Walter Tutt, Ronnie Stephens, E.P. Griffith and Faye Glass.
