Demopolis held its first USSSA tournament on March 27.
Four teams played in the tournament including the two teams from Demopolis, full-time team (Blue Tigers) and reserve team (White Tigers). Mark Joseph Johnson (Blue Tigers) hit his first home run in the first game against Linden.
At the end of the day, Northport Naturals took the first place trophy home, and the Demopolis Blue Tigers won the second-place trophy. The parents would like to thank the Chamber of Commerce for making this tournament possible in Demopolis.
The Blue Tigers recently played in Cullman in an AA tournament. The team struggled getting in the rhythm Saturday morning with two losses, but Adam Sellers got his first home run in USSSA play in the first game.
Then the Tigers came into the third game against the No. 2 team in the state and pulled together as a team to keep them scoreless with a 6-0 victory. The Extreme coach said Demopolis had the best pitching of any team they have faced including AAA and Majors teams.
Sunday, the Tigers went undefeated with victories against the Diamond Dogs 12-4 and AL Stars 14-4. The team came in third place and qualified for Global World Series Play.
During the weekend these team members had time on the mound pitching: Clay White, Adam Sellers, Luke Yelverton, R.J. Cox, Colton Kelley, and Jacob Rodrigues. Other team members include: Caleb Holtzclaw, Robert Gibbs, M.J.Johnson, Jordan Grace, Seth Latham, Logan Fendley & Will Webb.
The team did an outstanding job coming together and are excited about the opportunity to play in a World Series.
They are playing Saturday in Tuscaloosa at Bowers Park. The parents are elated to see the development these young men are making in baseball and are very appreciative of the time their head coach, Brian Sellers, has put into this outstanding baseball program.
