SWEET WATER &045; Sweet Water’s 52-12 win last week over St. Jude moved the team’s win streak to 24 and the Bulldogs into the state playoff quarterfinals. But for the Sweet Water football players and their head coach Stacy Luker the win streak has to move to 27 for the group to achieve their season goals &045; a perfect record and a consecutive state championship.

This week the group faces its toughest opponent in the playoffs to date, Wadley. Wadley, who also sports the Bulldog mascot, is a one loss team &045; with the loss coming to 1A powerhouse Maplesville &045; and the group has a way, which is eerily similar to Sweet Water, of running over people.

The similarities between the two programs don’t stop there either. Luker said the tape he has watched on the group illustrates a running football team that plays great defense. When looking at the similarities between Wadley and his program’s offense he said:

While Luker’s group runs their offense out of a Wing T though, he said the Wadley group runs out of the Power I and Spread offenses, though the Spread formation is used as a way to open up the field for the run, and the run game isn’t limited to one rusher.

But don’t expect adjustments from Sweet Water’s defense. Luker’s group has had one adage this year: do what we do and do it well. Luker said the team is going out and doing what has got it there &045; playing Sweet Water football.

On offense it is much the same, tough Luker would like to see one change from last week’s game:
