FORT PAYNE — The Demopolis soccer team saw its first ever playoff run end early Tuesday as the Tigers fell 5-0 to Fort Payne High School.
The Tigers played the first 35 minutes of the game to a scoreless tie before a DHS defender misplayed a ball that Fort Payne pounced on for its first goal of the game.
Down only 1-0 at the half, Demopolis began to disintegrate in the second half.
“They’ve done this all year long,” Demopolis head coach Peter Keen said. “If somebody gets a lead on them, they get their head down. We have not gotten over that hump yet and that is something we’re going to have to work on.”
Demopolis watched as Fort Payne put four goals into the net in the second half, putting the game out of reach and ending the best season in Tiger history in the process.
“Could they beat that team? There is no question in my mind,” Keen said of his players. “They could beat that team.”
