Chamber prepares for banquet

DEMOPOLIS &8212; The Area Chamber of Commerce will host its 92nd annual Chamber Banquet and Dinner on Feb. 4.
The banquet will be held at the Demopolis Civic Center and is one of the biggest functions for the chamber and its members each year.
The event includes a silent auction and reception beginning at 6 p.m. with the dinner and meeting starting at 7 p.m. Immediately following dinner, 2007 Chairman of the Board, Patricia Quinney, will recognize outstanding chamber contributors for the past year. Smith will provide a brief overview of chamber activities and accomplishments and then present the much, anticipated awards for business and individual achievements, including lifetime achievement, citizen of the year, volunteer of the year and business of the year. The chamber requests nominations for these awards be sent to its office on the corner of Washington Street and Walnut Avenue. Nominations will be accepted through Friday.
The 2006 Chamber Banquet award winners were Dr. Wesley Hill, Lifetime Achievement Award; Frank Osborne, Citizen of the Year; Alabama Power/Greene County Steam Plant, Business of the Year; Lindsy Gardner, Community Volunteer of the Year and Charles Singleton, Chamber Volunteer of the Year.
Smith said tickets are $25 on sale now at the chamber office. The deadline for ticket purchase is Jan. 31.
