Passersby of the Demopolis Times and Blackbelt Gazette office may have noticed some extra activity around the building’s exterior over the past several weeks.

Contractors have been on site installing a new metal roof, making repairs to the mansard roofing and replacing a portion of the cedar exterior.

Work is expected to be completed in early May.

“The roof repairs alleviate a handful of roof leaks that had developed as the original roof deteriorated over time,” Times and Gazette publisher Jason Cannon said.

Once complete, the outside cedar planking will be restained and the sign re-installed in a custom frame affixed to the outside of the building.

“We’re all excited about the fresh look of our building and the ‘spring cleaning’ that’s taken place,” Cannon added.
