Montgomery holds Jackson at bay for DHS win

Demopolis (5-0) continued its early season hot streak Saturday afternoon with an 8-3 win over Class 4A power Jackson.
Playing their third game in less than 24 hours, the Tigers turned to junior Brock Montgomery (1-0) to make his first varsity start on the mound.
Montgomery responded by pitching shutout frames in the first, second, fourth and fifth innings while working out of trouble in the third to keep Jackson at bay.
Montgomery worked five innings, scattering six hits and striking out six batters while issuing no walks and allowing two earned runs.
Kole Thrasher (1) saw his first mound action of the year in sixth and seventh innings, fanning two batters in two perfect innings of work to get the save.
The Tiger offense got started early, hanging three runs on the board in the first inning before posting two more in the second, one in the fourth and two in the sixth.
Thrasher walked twice and scored two runs out of the Demopolis leadoff spot. Mason Rogers went 1-for-1 with two walks, a stolen base and two runs scored.
Alex Sturdivant went 1-for-2 with two RBIs, two runs scored, a walk and a stolen base.
William Stewart continued to swing a hot bat, going 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs in the game. Payne Hasty finished 2-for-4 with an RBI. Tyler Charleston went 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored.
Devin Stroud went 2-for-4 and Montgomery drew a walk in the game.
The Tigers drew a total of seven walks in the contest, making it a total of 19 coaxed bases for DHS during the three-game tournament. After playing five games in the opening week of their season, the Tigers have drawn a total of 30 walks.
The Tigers are scheduled to play again Tuesday at Leroy High School against Saraland.
