BETHEL SPRIGS, Tenn. &8212; Mary Butler Hamby a native of in Bethel Sprigs, Tenn. died June 16, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 19, 2008, at Patterson-Forest Grove Funeral Home, with burial in Forest Grove Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Tommy Carr officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 – 11 a.m., prior to service time
at the funeral home.
She was born June 3, 1917. She graduated from New Hope High School in New Hope, and attended Maryville College in Tennessee for two years. There she met and married the Rev. Oliver Newton Hamby. They served pastorates in Enterprise, Hayneville, Greensboro and Sylvania, Ga.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, a brother, Charles Butler, and his wife, Joy, a sister-in-law, Margaret Butler, and a brother, James B. Butler.
She is survived by two brothers, John Butler and wife, Allie, of Decatur, David Butler and wife, Reese, of Huntsville, and a sister-in-law, Pat Butler, of Boaz; two children, Eloise Hamby Harris and husband, David A., of Demopolis and Stanley Oliver Hamby, of Decatur; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
