Marengo, ALJ split region openers

Marengo and A.L. Johnson opened region play Tuesday, splitting a pair of games between their varsity boys and girls.
The Marengo Lady Panthers downed ALJ 49-43 on the strength of Shakayla Bouler’s 19 points. She also contributed six rebounds, three assists and five steals in the effort.
Tallamachiia Dumas finished with 11 points, 26 rebounds, six steals, three blocks and two assists. Alesia Bowser added 10 points, 10 rebounds, seven steals and two assists.
Ashley Edwards led A.L. Johnson with 18 points, eight rebounds, six assists and four steals. Tiffany Barber added 16 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Lady Eagles.
The A.L. Johnson varsity boys pulled out a 63-62 win over Marengo. Derrious Rodgers led Marengo with 20 points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists. Quenton Hazewood had 15 points, 15 rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block.
Travis Ford had eight points, four rebounds, two assists and one block. Patrick Bouler had six points, five rebounds and two steals. Jamarcus Agee had four points and 13 rebounds in the effort.
The Marengo junior varsity boys fell to A.L. Johnson 50-33. Demetrius Bowser had 13 points, 10 rebounds, eight s teals, five assists and a block. Deshon Smith had eight points, 14 rebounds and seven steals. Jordan Lockett added eight rebounds.
